Hala Khouri, MA, cocreator of Off The Mat, Into The World™,
an organization offering training programs combining yoga
and sustainable activism, has dedicated her life to teaching
yoga and leading transformational retreats and workshops.
Khouri has been teaching yoga and the movement arts for
more than 16 years, drawing inspiration from yoga, somatic
psychology, and ecopsychology. She wrote her master’s
thesis on using yoga and other complementary disciplines,
such as ecopsychology and somatics, for self-empowerment
to inspire a global shift toward peaceful and sustainable
living. She also trains yoga teachers to work with at-risk
youth and has written a manual for Yoga Ed. on the topic.
She is the president of the exhalesoul foundation, a community
service foundation started at exhale spa.
Khouri began her journey toward yoga with studies in psychology
and religion at Columbia University. She holds a master’s
degree in counseling psychology and is trained in somatic
experiencing, a body-centered psychotherapy that addresses
how trauma affects the body-mind. She is currently working
toward a doctorate in somatic psychology at Santa Barbara
Graduate Institute. |
