Dawson Church, PhD, CEHP
Dawson Church, PhD, C.EHP, is founder of Soul Medicine Institute, a nonprofit institution dedicated to education and research into science-based medical interventions that use consciousness and energy as primary modalities. Among the research initiatives at Soul Medicine Institute is the first database of energy psychology clinical case histories. Church is also chief executive officer of Energy Psychology Press, which publishes cutting-edge alternative healing/integrative medicine books, and former president of The Family Connection, one of just 53 United States nonprofits honored as Points of Light by President Bill Clinton.
A prolific author, Church has edited or authored more than 200 books in the fields of health, psychology, and spirituality. Books on which he has worked have won more than two-dozen awards, including Best Health Book (Independent Press Awards) and Best Science Book (USA Book News Awards), and his research summaries of the biomedical evidence for consciousness-based treatments provide the scientific underpinnings for this emerging field. His book, The Genie in Your Genes: Epigenetic Medicine and the New Biology of Intention, outlines the latest studies on the effects of consciousness on the expression of the DNA molecule, and how consciousness will soon become the front line of medicine.
Church has also collaborated on articles with many of the leading voices of our time, including Larry Dossey, Bernie Siegel, Caroline Myss, Jeanne Achterberg, Neale Donald Walsch, Gay Hendricks, Joan Borysenko, Mary Catherine Bateson, Andrew Harvey, Huston Smith, Barry Sears, and John Gray. Church has been quoted in USA Today, the Los Angeles Times, the San Francisco Chronicle, Parenting, and many other national media, including CNN.
In undergraduate and graduate work at Baylor University, Church distinguished himself by being the very first student to complete the academically rigorous University Scholar’s program. He earned his doctorate in integrative health care at Holos University under the mentorship of distinguished neurosurgeon C. Norman Shealy, founder of the American Holistic Medical Association. Church went on to receive a postgraduate doctorate in natural medicine, as well as clinical certification in energy psychology. Church and Shealy coauthored Soul Medicine, a compendious survey of spiritual healing throughout history. They culminated this work with a landmark profile of accreditation standards for the emerging fields of energy medicine and energy psychology.
As a member of the research committee of the Association for Comprehensive Energy Psychology, Church has been active in researching the empirical basis for leading-edge techniques. He is currently participating in several scientific studies at Kaiser Permanente and private institutions, and presents regularly at conferences to update colleagues on his findings, as well as presenting workshops for corporations and retreat centers.
