In the spirit of fun, this tap workshop celebrates the classic and contemporary expressions of a uniquely American style of dance.

With Dame Michele Ribble, we practice classical tap as well as the hottest, cutting-edge rhythms of today’s New York City tap scene. We learn classic combinations and syncopated rhythms, and then combine them with improvisational “scat singing with our feet.”

David Rider’s teaching focuses primarily on cleanliness of technique and clarity of rhythm. With his guidance, we polish our basic tap skills as we explore both the dance and music elements of tap.

From the dance itself, along with video footage and discussions of tap history, we leave not only with a sense of achievement, but also a love for the art of tap dance.

Beginners and advanced beginners are welcome to join the fun in this challenging, but nonthreatenting exploration of our tap dance heritage.

Tap shoes required. Some shoes may be available; contact Rhinebeck Dance Center at 845.876.3303. Recommended reading: Mark Knowles, Tap Roots and The Tap Dance Dictionary.

Dame Michele Ribble is an award-winning choreographer, master instructor, producer, dancer, and coach. She has choreographed for both stage and screen, including working as the assistant choreographer for the film Beetlejuice and choreographing numerous acts for the Garden Brothers, Right Brothers, and Bentley Brothers Circuses. rhinebeckdance.com
