Critics who love images, risk-taking, and an accessible voice have praised the poetry of Sharon Olds. Michael Ondaatje has called Olds’ poems “pure fire in the hands.”
Each morning and afternoon, we hear and respond to a new first draft by each poet. (We work entirely by ear at these meetings.) We also talk together about craft, inspiration, and the poems we want to write.
Enrollment in this workshop is by application only, postmarked by April 23, and requires a $10 nonrefund-able application fee (payable to Omega). To apply, please send in three typed poems, one per page. Include your name, address, and phone number. Send to: Omega Institute, Olds Application, 150 Lake Dr., Rhinebeck, New York 12572. Selections will be made by May 16. Once accepted and registered, all fees are nonrefundable. This workshop is also offered as a weekend workshop June 13-15.
Celebrated poet Sharon Olds is the chairperson of the creative writing program at New York University. Her books include Satan Says; The Dead and the Living; The Gold Cell; The Father; The Wellspring; Blood, Tin, Straw; The Unswept Room; and Strike Sparks.
